Ramsgate is a modern all-weather Ro-Ro port with a 3 berth basin capable of accepting vessels with drafts up 6.0m. An increasing number of cargo ships belonging to freight only operators use the port. Its 3 linkspans are able to accept heavy loads as they transfer between ship and land, all being of the modern pontoon design with double roadway bridge sections. Stevedores are on hand day and night, seven days a week, to assist with the loading and unloading of unaccompanied freight. The inner basin, which is separate and contains a small general cargo berth and a locked marina area which is non-tidal, provides 500 berths for small pleasure craft.
